Target after Christmas clearance

I have been waiting to buy any Christmas stuff for next year, but I hit the jackpot today. I had coffee with a friend in Yulee, so I took the opportunity to run in Target afterward. I was pleasantly surprised to see they already had their Christmas stuff 75% off. Whoo Who!!!! I went a little crazy. They still had lots of everything, trees, yard decorations (matt), candy, toys, cards, wrap......Check out your local Target if you need any of that kind of stuff for next year. My stash is now replenished.

Walgreens sales

I got all this for $5 after Walgreen's coupons and register rewards. This is a great week to get those little Christmas things you need (bags, tissue paper, tags, etc... Whenever you buy $25 dollars worth of merchandise a $5 register reward will automatically print out. You don't have to give them a coupon for it or anything. The great thing about this is that it is $25 before you take the coupons off.(it goes by the regular price of your items) I bought a lot of things that had the Walgreen's coupon (from the flyer) for .39 cents. The average regular price of these items was .99 cents. Example: If you bought 26 items that were regularly .99 cents ($25.74), but were on sale this week for .39 cents you would spend $10.14 OOP and get a $5 register reward.

Frugal Family Christmas Fun (day #9)

You and your children can do some holiday baking. Cookies, candies, etc..... At times I find myself in too much of a hurry or I want things perfect so I automatically say "no" when my children ask to help. I am trying to relax and say "yes" more often. I remember as a child rolling out cookie dough with my mom and cutting them and painting them with food coloring. Those are the kinds of things that stick out in your memory. I'm sure I won't remember in 10 years how clean or messy my kitchen was because my kids did or didn't help. My children get excited when I let them break apart the store bought cookie dough or stir the bowl. They are proud of their accomplishments. Do some holiday baking with your kids this year.

Frugal Family Christmas Fun (Day #8)

Every year my maternal extended family gathers at my house the Sat. before Christmas. One of the kids favorite things about this party is that we go caroling each year. My neighborhood is one large circle. We go house to house singing Christmas carols. Just make sure you know the words....sometime we get to the middle of a song and realize we don't know the rest.

Frugal Family Christmas fun (day #7)

Take a family picture together. This does not have to be expensive. For many years my best friend and I have gone to the beach together (with our families and digital cameras) and taken pictures. The key is to take a lot so your are bound to like some of them. Go anywhere that is in your area. One year we went to a fort and one year we took them while we were on vacation in the mountains. Then make that family photo into an ornament for your tree. I usually get a dated frame from the Picture People or go to cracker barrel. This year you can go to artscow.com and get a ornament made with your uploaded picture for $1.99 + free shipping. Just use the code ORNAMENT199. I already ordered mine. You can order as many as you want for that price. I bought several for gifts. Another great place to get pictures taken is Portrait Innovations. They have a special that you can get for $9.99. They do a great job and I'm always happy with the outcome. Each year when we pull out our ornament my kids are excited to look at the pictures from past years. It is kinda a Christmas tree scrapbook.

Frugal family Christmas fun (day #6)

You and your family walk through the town of Bethlehem at the time Christ was born. Many other churches may have a live nativity or Christmas programs/plays. My three children will be in our church play tomorrow night.

I got my book!!!!!

I got my Oprah free Snapfish book today. Shhhhh, it's a gift for my parents. It turned out really nice. I would use them to make books in the future.

Frugal Family Christmas Fun (day #5)

Take your kids and go visit Santa Claus. Walmarts all over the country are having Santa at their stores this Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 6 & 7). He is in the garden center at our Walmart. They will even print you a free photo in the photo center. Call your local Walmart for the hours. You could also check with your local Chick-fil-A resturant. The one closest to me (Rivercity) is having a dinner with Santa on Tue. Dec 16th. They will have free cookies and hot chocolate, train rides, and pictures with santa. My Chick-fil-a is also having a Polar Express night on Dec 9th. They will have train rides, reading of the book "polar express", free cookies & hot chocolate, and kids are encouraged to wear their pajamas. I know all of this seems like a lot of commercialism but I have a lot of other activities planned to show the true meaning of Christmas. With all the hustle and bustle of the season, I never want my children to forget why we really celebrate.

Thanks to Money saving methods for this info.

Frugal Family Christams Fun (day #3)

My twins have already started asking me "how many days til Christmas?" To help little ones get an understanding you could do a christmas countdown together or an advent calendar. Click here for some great printables to use with your family. Last November when I visited Vienna, Austria I learned about some of their holiday traditions. One of the things they do each year is these huge churches decorate these huge windows. Each day one window/shutter is opened by local children and they are filled with candy. Start a new tradition with your kids this year!

Frugal family Christmas idea (day #2)

What are some of your favorite Christmas season memories of childhood? Some of mine are sitting in front of the TV with my brother watching Rudolph, Frosty, Charlie Brown Christmas, etc.... I know we live in a different time with dvd, dvr, and on demand, but some things never change. You could schedule some time to watch a few classics with your children this year. The Family Channel has a 25 days of Christmas lineup. Click here to see and print your own list. You could use your CVS ECB and get some movie theater candy and popcorn to make it even more fun.

Frugal family Christmas activites (day #1)

Niki at Free to be Frugal has a great post about Frugal holiday ideas to make traditions with your kids. She suggests wrapping 25 holiday themed children's books individually in wrapping paper. Then let your child(ren) pick one to open and read each night. We just read "Santa Claus is coming to town" tonight. You can pick up books cheap at thrift stores or yard sales. You could also get books from the library. I am a book lover so my kids book shelves are overflowing already.

Todays REDBOX code

Go to any REDBOX location today only (12/1) and you can rent a free movie. Use the code CC67M4. This code expires at midnight tonight. Go rent a holiday movie to watch with your family.

Double Coupon Week 11/30 - 12/6

Kmart is doubling up to and including $2.00 coupons again this week. I have not visited Kmart in a while, but this may make it worth a trip. Some of the other bloggers are saying to give your coupon after each individual item instead of giving them a pile at the end of the transaction. They report it is easier to see if they are being deducted correctly. Kmart has a multi step system for deducting these coupons and it will be easier to fix if a problem occurs when you give them individually.

I need to vent!!!!!!

This morning I got up an hour earlier than normal so I could go to CVS before church. I got there at 8:10am (10 minutes after it opened). I walked in the door and stopped by the newspapers to pick up a couple of extra copies. I noticed a lady that walked in right behind me. As soon as I left the papers I walked over to the aisle with Loreal anti-wrinkle serum that had ECB for Sunday & Monday. There were none on the shelf. We asked someone where they were. They brought us to that aisle and said there were 4 or 5 a few minutes ago. Then we noticed the lady who walked in behind me at the register with at least 5 of the Loreal anti-wrinkle serums. She was also holding multiple cards and ECB. I was so frustrated. If you are going to break the rules and have multiple cards, then you should at least be a little courteous. She could have left one on the shelf. I got there at 8:10am. I wasn't aware that I should have worn running shoes to go grab merchandise. I left that store and went to another one about 10 minutes away. I did get my Loreal, but I think it is ridiculous that people try to hoard all the free items.

When it gets done.. I do myself proud!

Well it's far and few between that I get to do "Coupon Runs" anymore. Being a stay at home geographical single mom on top of trying to sale/rent our house has burned me out. However on the day, like today, that I did get go... ALONE:) without potty breaks, free cookie runs and being elasta mom (move over Mrs. Incredible) It was great.

I hit up Michaels which I found out take JoAnn & A.C Morre coupons.. Then I headed to Walmart. They don't beat when you can get double coupons but they do beat on almost all prices every other time. FYI The instant 6 pack jello single serves have been rolled back to $1 so if you have the .50 off of 1 coupon they are .50 a box. Then I headed to Winn Dixie. which I normally don't like but on I had a 10 for $10 rain check I need to use in combo w/ my $1 off steamers.. well then there registers would ring them all up right so I got 10 bags of steamers for free and only had to use 7 coupons... So, I'll save them for a rainy day. Next it was off to Publix which was my main objective. Now that I know they take other (AKA Foodlion) coupons I am in frugal heaven. I did get alot of stuff there.. Especially 20 jars of baby food.. yeah, my baby is 15 months but if he won't eat it (stage 3 oatmeal & applesauce) then I'll pass it on to Melissa.. At days ens I spent a grand total of $26.09 on everything! And did I mention the cute guy following me through Publix was an added bonus.. I don't know if it was my non-make up wearing messed up just rolled out of bed look or if he was getting a kick out of my frugalness either way I think I lost him when I opened the door to my car and a ton of junk fell out or it could have also been the 3 car seats in my car:) Either way.. It was a befrugal beautiful day in the neighborhood. Selina

Walgreens 10/5 - 10/11

As I mentioned last week, I am starting to like Walgeens more and more. There are some rules to remember though. Lori got frustrated this weekend because one of the managers she dealt with didn't even know their own rules.

1) Never use more coupons than the number of items you have. For example if you are using a store coupon and a man. coupon on one item then you need to throw in a cheap filler item. You can't hand them 5 coupons and only buy 2 items. There register/computer will not let all the coupons scan that way. I know it sounds crazy, but it is corporate policy.
2) Register rewards are considered man. coupons as well.
3) you can only use one register reward per transaction. You can't stack them like ECB.
4) you can't use a register reward for an item to buy that same item and get another register reward. You can use other register rewards though.

As long as you follow these guidelines you shouldn't have any problems.

How do you stay organized?

As you can see from the top picture, I have a lot of problems keeping socks matched up. It seems to be even more difficult for my two boys socks. They look so much alike and are a similar size. I decided to try something new. I'm tired of wasting so much time and effort with the sock graveyard. I bought my five year old the black footie style socks. I bought my ten year old the white socks with gray and black bottoms. I plan to use only this style of socks for them (except for church). That should make it much easier to sort and spot socks. I don't want to hear another morning "Mom, I don't have any socks". If you have any other ideas please let me know.

My Kmart trip

My total before coupons was $148. After double coupons I paid $30.96. I saved $117 dollars. WOW, that is a lot of money. I have to say that the computers at my Kmart were not very user friendly. It took awhile for the cashier and the manager to correctly enter all my coupons. There seemed to be a lot of steps involved. They were so nice though that I can't really complain. I also picked up these cute bathing suits for my daughter. They were $2.99 each. They seemed to have a lot of summer clearance, but I didn't really look because the double couponing took so long.

Cut all your coupons and get ready. Harris Teeter is tripling!!!

Harris Teeter will be tripling coupons 9/18- 9/20. Thanks for this info. from Fun Being Frugal. From what I understand about Harris Teeter's coupon policy:

-will double/triple coupons valued up to $.99.
-only 20 coupons per day per household will double/triple
-only three like coupons will double/triple, any more like coupons after that will only be redeemed at face value.
- I have also heard that they won't double/triple Internet coupons, but mine have always doubled or tripled.

I know this is a 30 minute trip to Amelia Island, but it is definitely worth it during triple coupons. The last time they had triple coupons, Lori and I rode together to go shopping. Find someone to carpool with and save even more.

Planning ahead for Christmas this year

All the blogs I have been reading have reminded me that Christmas is not too far away.I have recently started trying to follow a stricter budget than last year. I love Christmas and everything that goes along with the season, so I am thinking ahead this year. I found a few good deals at CVS this week. My CVS has all summer items 50% off. I thought the lined baskets would be great for making themed baskets for family and friends. I also got this Hannah Montana toy for my 5 year old daughter. I will stock up on stocking stuffers now.
I am making a list just like Jennifer at Get ready for Christmas suggested. I got my $25.00 Home Depot gift card (for buying items at Publix) in the mail last week. This may make a good gift for dad or any man in your life. Those $5.00 gift cards from Target's deal this week would make a good addition to a gift basket for a teacher or friend. Do you collect coke rewards? You could use reward points to get gift cards or other gifts. You can use 285 points to make a 8x11 photo book at snapfish. This would make a good gift for any grandparent. Let me know your ideas for saving money this Christmas.

Using a Coupon Devotion

Hey Guys... I have been subscribing for a while to the A/G Women's Ministry's  devotional email... This is what today's was.. thought that you might would enjoy... Hey Kelly... I went to the Walmart of New Smryna Beach while at my Dad's and got all of my Kraft product freebies with my all you magazine coupons..

Using A Coupon

Using coupons is an amazing challenge for me. Clipping the coupon and adding it to my collection is like retrieving a prize. I love to gather those colorful little money savers for groceries, makeup, dog food or restaurants. I have a bright blue coupon keeper with little tabs so I can sort my coupons into categories. Sure, I often go through my collection and have to weed out unused expired coupons, but that never stops me from clipping more.

Sunday afternoon is my favorite time to settle in with the Sunday paper and my scissors. I snip away and quickly place my coupons in the coupon keeper. Then I place all of the restaurant coupons in my cars little compartment Im sure was designed for that very purpose. When I place the current weeks sale ads and diner coupons in the car, I pull out the previous weeks plethora of paper and pitch it.

Many of my friends just do not understand my love of coupons. They chuckle and roll their eyes when one of them gets ready to purchase something and I say, Just a minute! I have a coupon for that! They also shake their heads when the wad of sale ads from Sundays paper slides out from beneath the passengers seat and splashes across the floor. However, not one friend has ever turned down a coupon when I hand it to the clerk at the cash register for her purchase. No one has ever complained when I pull out an eatery ad that lets us buy one lunch and get the second lunch free.

I have learned a few tips to control my coupon addiction. I have used coupons greatly over the years for personal benefit, but I have also used coupons to bless others. When I am getting ready to fly out of town, I hand my pile of restaurant coupons and shopping ads to my neighbor to use. I learned to do that after I returned from a trip and discovered some really good coupons had expired while I was gone! I also pass coupons for baby items to new mothers; kids toys to young moms; and guys stuff to my friends who have husbands who would appreciate those things.

Finally, I have learned what coupons not to collect. If I know I will be traveling soon, I dont clip coupons for groceries that would spoil while I am away. I make myself put the scissors down when I see coupons for candy bars, ice cream and my favorite chips while I am trying to take off a few pounds. When it is late on Sunday night and the newspaper is still rolled up in the plastic delivery bag, I have learned it is OK to go to bedand deal with the coupon clipping on Monday!

Pam and Kathys 7 Tips for Getting Help from Coupons

Obtain an envelope, pouch or box to organize your coupons.

Find friends who can use the extra coupons you do not need.

Be sure to check the fine print on coupons to determine limitations and expiration dates.

Use coupons to help you save money on what you plan to buy, not to dictate your purchases.

Sort coupons into categories or areas of the store (meat, produce, etc.) to make shopping easier.

Take advantage of stores that double your coupons or offer discounts in addition to your coupon.

Consider restaurant coupons as encouragement to take a friend to lunch without hurting your budget.

Sunday, August 17th Coupon Ideas

I have always gotten coupons from the Sunday paper or the Internet. I have read other blogs that talk about buying from a coupon cutting service. I never tried it until this week. I wanted to let everyone know it worked great. Selina posted the deal about Fusion razors being on clearance for $3.50 at our Wal-mart. I thought this would be a great time to try this since the razors would be free with the $4.00/1 coupon. I used http://www.thecouponclippers.com. I ordered them on Tue. night. They were mailed on Wed. and I received them on Friday. When you see a really good sale coming up or if you are short on coupons you use all the time, then give this a try. Happy Birthday Selina!!!!!!!!!!
