Shopping the last day of 2009
I had a lot of coupon/deals I wanted to do that were expiring today so I headed out to Walgreen's and CVS this morning. My first stop was Walgreen's. The total of all this would have been $63.xxx without sales and coupons. After sales/coupons I paid $20.27 OOP, but I got back $16 in register rewards........so I paid $4.27 for all of this......good deal to me. Next stop was CVS. My total before sales/coupons would have been $51.xxx. My total OOP after sales/coupons was $17.44 and I got back $8 in extra care bucks......so I spent $9.44 for all the stuff below.........BUT......the very best part is I am mailing in a rebate to get $15 back (olay)......so I made money on this deal.

75% off Christmas clearance
I went to Target this morning and they had changed to 75% off!!!!! I had set a goal not to buy anything until they went to 75% off and I did it. Not every Target has gone to 75% off so be patient. A few tips
- look other places for Christmas items besides the designated place.....example I found Hello kitty make-up items for young girls in the make-up section. Some of the packaging had Chritmas so I scanned it and it was 75% off
- look in the paper goods for holiday paper towels, ziplocs, tissues, etc....look in the food items for holiday marked foods. I got a pack of oreos for .67 cents because they had snowflakes on them.
- look in the clothing for holiday clothes, socks, etc...
- Candy- they have they Christmas books of Hubba Bubba gum, Life savers etc....these are individually wrapped package's inside the box book that can be taken out and used for Easter basket fillers.
WAL-Mart
My Wal-mart is still 50% off but you can find a few good deals. Wal-mart tends to have a lot of kids bath items.....GI Joe, Hannah Montana, Disney Princess, etc.... that is not marked holiday but is 50% off. Think outside the box. These would be great Easter basket fillers or gifts to fill a Valentine bag.....think ahead
$1.80 note cards shipped
I just ordered these cute personalized stationary note cards from www.expressionery.com. Of course they will have my name and not have the "last chance" on them.....lol. I got a set of 25 for $1.93 shipped. Just use the code: madness to take 70% off of the already reduced clearance price and shipping is free too. These were originally $27.50, then marked down to $6.00 , then $1.80 after discount code (madness) and .13 cents tax. Just go to clearance and look thru all the pages for the last chance items for the best deals.

Holiday happenings
We are crab sitting Drew and Abby's class room pets (hermit crabs). There names are Zach & Zoe. Pray I do okay taking care of them. The teacher gave me a hermit crabs for dummies book to read...LOL. This is Abby and her friend at their girl scout Christmas party
We had our big familt Christmas party last night. It has always been at my house every year since 1992 (the first year I was married). I passed the torch to my cousin this year and she had it at her new house. It was bittersweet because it was a tradition that Aaron and I had started together, but it was time to pass the torch. maybe it will be in Tallahassee at my other cousin's house next year. We are so blessed to still have our granny with us. We took lots of pictures with her. These are all the great-grand kids

It's a busy time of year
I am hoping that things slow done a little bit in 2 days, because then I will be off until Jan 4th!!! I hope to get back to blogging more deals, but in the meantime I will show you what has been keeping me so busy. Avery had to go the YMCA to get his football award/medal on Saturday morning. Then it was off to church for Christmas play practice. Drew and Abby went to Lowe's to build Christmas ornaments. they love this and it's free.
Saturday afternoon this kids went to their grandparents and we went shopping. It was raining non-stop for at least 12 hours, but despite all that I feel like I got a lot accomplished. Avery was in the Children's Christmas play at our church on Sunday night.

Free ornaments at Lowe's this Saturday
This Saturday, Lowe's will be offering another Build and Grow clinic for children. It will be from 10:00am-11:00am. Go here for more detials and to sign up.
I got my ornaments from Artscow
Last month I wrote a post about $1.99 Christmas ornaments from Artscow. A lot of people said they have experienced slow shipping with that company since they are outside the U.S. I ordered from them last Christmas and had no problem. This year I ordered Thanksgiving weekend. I received my order on Wed. (12/9). I thought that was a pretty fast shipment. I think maybe the production /shipping time on other items (such as photo books) may be longer.

Have you experienced frustration at Walgreens?
My friend, Selina has always had problems with Walgreen's and she would call me to vent her frustration. I have always tried to be aware of every (sometimes crazy) rule that Walgreen's has for their register reward (RR) program. As long as I followed those rules I usually have no problems.....that is until last month. I work in a very urban area of Jax. so it is easy for me to run by that Walgreen's after work. About a month ago I had a problem with a transaction where I was using RR and coupons. I had the appropriate amount of items to coupons, etc... but for some reason it would beep in the computer. The manager came up and told me I can't use RR and coupons together. I explained Walgreen's corporate policy that a register reward is counted as a manuf. coupon and as long as the number of coupons doesn't exceed the number of items I can use them together. I couldn't get anywhere with him so I asked for my coupons and RR back and went straight to my Walgreen's near my home and did the same transaction with no problems at all. I was so frustrated with the first store that I stayed away at least a month. I decided to give them another try today because I had a RR that I needed to use. I bought 2 boxes of cereal. I used one manf. coupon and 1 RR....I was buying 2 items and using 2 coupons total for the transaction. Should be no problem right???? Wrong. It took the manf. coupon but beeped on the RR. I asked to have a manager come fix whatever problem was occurring. An assistant manager came up and told me that I can't use a RR with a coupon....no matter how many items I have. i informed him that Walgreen's corporate counts a RR as a manuf. coupon and since I had 2 items I can use 2 coupons.....so he insisted I was wrong.... The cashier calls the manager and says over the phone "the lady we had a problem with last time is up here again"......excuse me????? I was not causing any problems just trying to get their problem resolved.....Long story short a nice lady manager did come up front and confirmed I was right, but not before I was totally embarrassed. I will not be going to that Walgreen's again.........but rest assured I will be going to other Walgreen's.

Great Keebler cookie deal at Target
This week Target has Keebler cookies on sale for $2 each and when you buy 5 packs you get a $5 gift card. So you spend $10 and get a $5 gift card, but I found something to make this deal even better. I went to the Christmas section of my store and found specially marked boxes of Keebler cookies. They did not have a sale sign so I scanned them to make sure they were $2 each( and they were). They specially marked boxes say: Free $10 in toy cash. You get a $10 toy voucher in the mail when you buy 5 boxes. The rebate form is inside of the box. And you have until 12/31/2010 (not this year) to redeem it. So this is what I did: bought 5 boxes for $10 total. Got a $5 gift card. Now will send in for $10 rebate = free + overage!!!!!!! We can use these at scouts or school party for snacks!!!!!! Win/Win!!!!

It's begining to look a lot like Christmas......Abby and Drew decide to decorate their rooms
No......this is not my tree in my family room. Abby and Drew decided to buy little trees for their rooms. Abby bought a purple one and Drew bought a green traditional one. The made all the ornaments by themselves....including the stars made out of a soda bottle....very creative kids. I know they aren't perfect award winning trees, but they made memories that will last a lifetime.
