clam chowder recipe

When it is in the 20's (low) and 40's (high) with possible snow flurries in North Florida then it is time to make soup. My husband loves clam chowder. He orders it everywhere we go.....btw, it is excellent at Sneaker's sports grill/bar. I have never made it. I went to Allrecipes.com which I love and found this great recipe. Go here to get this recipe. Everyone in my house loved it. Not the lowest calorie soup, but soooooo good.

I did my recipe for 12 servings, but you can adjust the amount of servings you want the recipe for on Allrecipe.com.

Ingredients

• 5 (6.5 oz) cans minced clams
• 1 1/2 cups minced onions
• 1 1/2 cups diced celery
• 3 cups cubed potatoes
• 1 1/2 cups diced carrots
• 1 cup 2 tablespoons of butter
• 1 cup and 2 tablespoon all-purpose flour
• 6 cups half and half
• 3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
• 2 1/4 teaspoons salt
• ground pepper to taste

directions:

1) drain juice from clams into a large skillet over the onions, celery, potatoes, and carrots. Add water to cover and cook over medium heat until tender.

2) meanwhile, in a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in four until smooth. Whisk in cream and stir constantly until thick and smooth. Stir in vegetables and clam juice. Heat through but do not boil.

3) stir in clams just before serving. If they cook too much they get tough. When clams are heated through, stir in vinegar, and season with salt and pepper.

Florida resident special for Disney World

Are you wanting to take a vacation to the most magical place on earth? If you live in Florida then this is a good time. Disney is offering a 4 day park pass for $99 a person and $84 for children ages 3-9. These passes will be valid between Jan-3-March 26th and then again April 10th-May 25th. They must be purchased no later than May 21st. These are 4 day passes for one park each day. You can make them park hoppers by adding $25 per ticket. Lori saw commercials for this deal, but a friend of hers called Disney to verify and get detailed info. You do not have to use them for consecutive days. You can split up your visits between those dates. This is such a good deal because a one day park pass is around $80 per person. I have heard that harris teeter is doing super doubles starting 1/6 thru 1/12. They will double 20 coupons per person per day up to a $1.98 value.......example....a coupon with a value of $1.50 will double to $3 off.

my drug store shopping today

My first stop today was Walgreen's. I got the electrasol on sale for $3.49 and used the $2.50 off coupon out of today's paper. I got the neosporin lip ointments 2/$8 and used two printable $3 off coupons. I spent $3.24 OOP and got back these $4 in register rewards....yeah, got back more than I spent....good trip:)

My next stop was CVS. I got two of the Nivea body washes at $5.99 each. I used two $2 off coupons nad got back $5 ECB. I got the oust which is $3.99 but gives a $3 ECB for each one. I used BOGO free coupons from todays paper saving me $7.98. The Irish Springs soap is $4.99 with $2 ECB back. Hersheys kisses 75% off (.87 cents). I spent $18.05 OOP

and I got back $21.50 in Extra care bucks........so once again I got back more than I spent!!!!

Last stop the Walgreens right down the street from my house. We have two locations that are close. I got another electrasol for $3.49 and used another $2.50 off coupon from today's paper. The matrix and Nexxus shampoos were marked down to 75% off. The Nexxus was $2.59 a bottle. I used two $2 off coupons printed from becoming a fan on facebook. The Matrix color care was marked down to $4.79. I used a $10 register reward I had to get those for free! The lip smackers were marked down to $1.39. I used two $1 off coupons. Total spent out of pocket was $4 even.

Then I got back $1 in register rewards, making my total for the trip $3.....not to bad for 4 salon products:)

2009 year in review

January 2009- we started on the 1st going to the the Gator Bowl. Drew broke is left arm at church playing in the gym.

Feb. 2009- We surprised the kids by taking them to Tampa for the NFL experience the week befor the superbowl.

March 2009- I got engaged!!!!!!!

April 2009- Jim and I got to spend a week in NY/PA to see his girls.

May 2009- My oldest child turned 11 years old.

June, 20, 2009- I married my best friend.

July 2009- Deja came to live with us.....(Cindy's dog)

August 2009- Avery started middle school

and the twins started 1st grade

Sept 2009- Drew got glasses.

Oct. 2009- The twins turned 7.

Nov 2009- We went to Athens to see a Ga home game for Jim's b-day gift.......I am not a GA fan.

Dec 2009- Merry Christmas

New Years Eve 2009- Celebrated with some friends
